Newsweek contacted the Mamdani campaign for comment via email on Friday outside of regular office hours.
Why It Matters
Mamdani’s proposal has already sparked a backlash with one conservative commentator branding him racist and urging New Yorkers to support incumbent Mayor Eric Adams instead, who is running in November as an independent.
The New York mayoral election campaign has already turned bitter with several Republicans suggesting Mamdani, a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Uganda, should be stripped of his American citizenshipand deported.
What To Know
Mamdani’s official campaign website features a policy memo under the title “Supporting homeowners and ending deed theft.”
The document says that if elected his administration will “Shift the tax burden from overtaxed homeowners in the outer boroughs to more expensive homes in richer and whiter neighborhoods.”
It adds: “The property tax system is unbalanced because assessment levels are artificially capped, so homeowners in expensive neighborhoods pay less than their fair share. The Mayor can fix this by pushing class assessment percentages down for everyone and adjusting rates up, effectively lowering tax payments for homeowners in neighborhoods like Jamaica and Brownsville while raising the amount paid in the most expensive Brooklyn brownstones.”
The document asserts that currently New York City taxes “family homes in Black and Latino neighborhoods like Jamaica, Brownsville, and Tremont more than it does in wealthier neighborhoods of the city.”
On Tuesday Mamdani, who began the campaign as a rank outsider, defeated former New York State governor Andrew Cuomo to secure the 2025 Democratic nomination for the New York mayoralty.
Mamdani, a democratic socialist, is running on a platform that includes a number of radical reforms such as creating city-owned grocery stores, offering free childcare to all New Yorkers with children aged between six weeks and five years and imposing a 2 percent tax on all residents earning more than $1 million annually.
On X Eric Daugherty, assistant news director for conservative leaning publication Florida’s Voice, said: “WTF? Zohran Mamdani supports taxing ‘whiter neighborhoods” in New York City higher than other boroughs.
“This Ugandan is not only a radical Muslim socialist but a RACIST. NYC, please reject this psycho and choose Eric Adams instead.”

I’m torn between being angry at the racism of this man along with the hate he represents, and laughing that this will happen to New York City and it’s liberal, useful, idiot Whites. Hochul, Cuomo, and Adams policies really aren’t that much different than Mamdani’s: that’s the sad part. When you live in a leftist area, there’s no good choices when it comes to voting. Every candidate is openly anti-White, typically comes from a background of extreme activism, many times their parents were hardcore communists in an academic situation, they’re not originally from America so they don’t share similar ideals, and their entire worldview is so different from ours we really have nothing in common.
It’s important that PK always notes the White percentage in his articles so that we understand what’s the driving force behind the downfall of our country. Take a look at every South American country, it’s some form of socialism and you have all the issues that go along with it – as our country turns more brown that’s the way we’re headed as well. Right now candidates like this are primarily limited to the bigger cities, but over time they’ll start to be more prominent in smaller ones as well; at that point you know the end is near.
On a different note, I was at a local small hardware store this weekend. It’s in somewhat of a rough neighborhood now, didn’t use to be, but it’s still mostly staffed by older White guys, pretty knowledgeable on the home improvement items they sell. Anyways, as I’m asking one of them for help finding something, we turn down the aisle to see a niqqer bent over looking for something on the bottom shelf with his pants just about around his knees and his entire ass hanging out – it was a no underwear day for him I guess… We both kinda ignored it and I got my item and left. I can’t help thinking about what my WW2 grandpa would’ve thought about that situation, thinking of all the guys he knew that fought and died for that?! As if wealthy whites in the outer boroughs aren’t paying their fair share of property taxes. I have relatives who live in a nice Long Island town, in a modest house. My uncle had a successful, blue collar business he started on his own in the garage of their previous home, and built his business up. He’s semi retired now.
They moved to the better town due to the schools in their old Flushing neighborhood getting filled with Asians and dot Indians. The property taxes alone on their house in the new town were $20k in the late 90s, and have only increased since then. That’s on top of a mortgage at the time (which is paid off now), and raising 3 kids.
Last I heard a few years ago, my aunt was complaining that their property taxes were going up AGAIN, to over $30k a year. The kids are grown, out of the house, and the parents have been considering selling and moving on to greener pastures, where they aren’t getting constantly bled by local governments taking money from their pockets and pissing it down the drain to give freebies and handouts to ingrates.
Unfortunately my aunt is a bleeding heart lib who would vote for the likes of a Zohron because he wants to “help people” (Remember “Ayy body poda hep”), then sell the house and move away for “reasons”, and bring her soft headed voting habits to which ever low tax, low crime, lack of diversity town/area they decide to move to with their millions.

I grew up with a bunch of guys who have the same accent, so I can’t tell if it’s “overly exaggerated”. The Guardian Angels were a thing in the 80s, Sliwa gained a lot of fame and a job in radio out of it. They didn’t come around my neighborhood, but I was told they were a good group of guys and did protect people. The NYC subway system is huge, it covers over 600 miles and has close to 500 stations. The chances one of the Angels could be around when Penny did his thing, is almost impossible. The length of the subway is longer than the length of Tennessee (440 miles). Anyway, Sliwa is strong on law and order which is the best NYC can hope for.

It happened somewhat differently from what you recall.
The perp had been arrested earlier for assaulting a DC police officer. His charge was downgraded to a misdemeanor and he was released the next day, which must have given the assaulted police officer great comfort in knowing that the city government he worked for was looking out for him as well as the citizens of the city.
The day after his release, the perp boarded the Metro train and stabbed his victim dozens of times in his robbery attempt. Some accounts of the attacked noted the perp also jumped up and down on him as he lay dying on the floor. Then, with his bloody knife in hand, he robbed other passengers, saying, “Gimme what you got!”
Being the criminal mastermind that he is, he was soon caught and was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Whether he’ll actually serve his full sentence is anyone’s guess. After all, “He a good boi, he dindu nuffin.”
There was some outrage in the immediate aftermath of the murder. People wondered why such a violent criminal and obvious threat to the community, who had assaulted a police officer, was so casually released so he could do even more harm. Officials said they would investigate how this was allowed to happen, blah, blah, blah. Heck, releasing violent and dangerous perps happens all the time, but people aren’t supposed to catch on that this is what their tax dollars are paying for.
