State's long-standing sanctioning of abortion, combined with sex-based disparities in legal rights and access to lethal power, invalidates its claim to monopoly on violence. contingent upon State's moral consistency, equal treatment under law, and impartial application of force.

Moonshot AI just released an open-source AI model with particularly strong performance on software coding and autonomous agent tasks. The Kimi K2-Instruct model systematically outperforms other AI models on tasks that matter most to businesses. On the most realistic coding benchmark available, Kimi K2 achieved 53.7% accuracy, beating DeepSeek-V3‘s 46.9% and GPT-4.1‘s 44.7%. More striking still: it scored 97.4% on MATH-500 compared to GPT-4.1’s 92.4%, suggesting Moonshot has achieved mathematical reasoning ability that has eluded larger, better-funded competitors. Moonshot is achieving these results with a model that costs a fraction of what incumbents spend on training and inference.

The first half of AI focused on building new models and methods, not their evaluation. The second half of AI will shift focus from solving problems to defining problems. In this new era, reinforcement learning (RL) is crucial, and evaluation becomes more important than training. Instead of just asking, “Can we train a model to solve X?”, we’re asking, “What should we be training AI to do, and how do we measure real progress?” In RL, there are three key components: algorithm, environment, and priors. It turned out the most important part of RL might not even be the algorithm or environment, but the priors, which can be obtained in a way unrelated from RL.

Along with a group of other Israeli international law scholars, we have sent an urgent letter to Israel’s Minister of Defense, the IDF Chief of Staff, the Attorney General and other senior officials concerning a plan, presented by the Minister of Defense Israel Katz, to “concentrate” the population of Gaza in a so-called “humanitarian city” to be established on the ruins of Rafah. We argue that the plan is manifestly illegal, and if carried out would amount to a series of grave international crimes, and thus call upon the recipients to renounce it and ensure that it is not implemented.

A Chinese-built maglev train was unveiled in Beijing this week at the 17th Modern Railways Exhibition, offering a futuristic glimpse of China’s rail transport aspirations. With a top speed of 600km/h, the superfast maglev travelling the 1,200km distance between Beijing and Shanghai could slash the present travel time of 5.5 hours by high-speed rail to as little as 2.5 hours (the shortest route between SF and LA is about 600km; China's new train could cover that distance in 75 minutes). Also, last year China conducted a milestone test run of its maglev hyperloop project, designed to reach a top speed of 1,000km/h, verifying key technologies.

Chinese foreign policy on Palestine has reflected the disjunction of two eras: revolutionary Maoist support for Palestinian liberation vs. the more recent “balanced approach” accommodating Israel. The Gaza genocide, however, could prompt a new path.

“The history of the personal computer (PC) wasn't just about technology—it was about vision, trust, and the courage to stand up to a monopoly. Gareth Edwards tells the story of how Compaq challenged IBM's dominance in the 1980s. When IBM tried to reclaim control of the PC market with proprietary technology, Compaq CEO Rod Canion decided to create an open standard and share it with competitors—effectively giving away "the company jewels" to preserve innovation. Canion's leadership style created both a beloved workplace culture and the backbone needed to face down the industry giant. If IBM had won, we’d be living in a very different technological landscape.”

In a recently published study, titled “Your Brain on ChatGPT: Accumulation of Cognitive Debt when Using an AI Assistant for Essay Writing Task,” MIT Media Lab researchers sought to determine the impact of AI on brain activity during writing exercises. The study consisted of three cohorts: one group that used only their brain, one that used a search engine, and one that used a large language model (LLM) like ChatGPT. The researchers discovered that the different groups had “significantly different neural connectivity patterns, reflecting divergent cognitive strategies.” Critically, use of the AI tools correlated with poorer results, both in brain activity and the other tests.

"Trump's FY 2026 budget request includes $3.9 billion for the National Science Foundation (NSF), representing a cut of $5.16 billion, or 56.9 percent". Hell, Israel will now be getting more money each year than the entire NSF. This is the opportunity cost of the MIC and their forever wars. "The budget request for NSF also indicates how this would have an impact on the success of research funds, with its award rate for research grants dropping from an estimated 24 percent in FY 2024 to 6 percent in FY 2026".
